Every July since 2001, France's Musiques en Stock music festival has invited thousands of contemporary music listeners to the small city of Cluses. The festivals lineup invariably includes a wide range of artists from a variety of music genres. One of the acts of the festival's 2016 edition was Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires. For decades Bradley made a living singing the music of James Brown, until he was discovered by Daptone Records, which eventually released Bradleys four albums. Rooting his music in funk, soul and R&B, Bradley is hailed for shaping the sound of the record label that first acknowledged his individuality. His 2016 performance at Musiques en Stock is on the way to become a classic that epitomizes everything Bradley represents: it is full of raw energy, urban Afro-American culture, and classic 1960s vibes.

Johnny Cash was one of the most influential figures in American music in the post war period. He managed to combine elements of folk, rock 'n' roll and country, which together with his distinctive voice and guitar style, created an instantly recognisable sound. 1994 was to prove to be Cash's only appearance at the Montreux Festival. The Man In Black had just released his acclaimed American Recordings album and his European tour took in Montreux on July 5. This classic concert features a number of tracks from his new album coupled with favourites from across his career including Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk The Line, Ghost Riders In The Sky, Orange Blossom Special and San Quentin. An added bonus is the guest appearance of his wife June Carter Cash on two tracks. Caught at one of the high points of his distinguished career this is truly Johnny Cash at his best.

On Brians birthday, the Montreux Jazz Festival hosted the penultimate concert of Brian and Kerrys Acoustic By Candlelight tour. It was their first appearance together at the festival. The show features a wide range of songs, from Queen classics like We Will Rock You, Love Of My Life and Crazy Little Thing Called Love to the Oscar-winning The Way We Were, as well as lesser-known gems like Dust In The Wind and Life Is Real, all of them performed beautifully by Brian and Kerry in stripped down arrangements which allow the songs shine through with unusual clarity and passion. Significantly, this was also the first live performance ever in Montreux of No-One But You, a song Brian was inspired to write in the city during the unveiling of the Freddie Mercury statue in 1996. This is Ellis and May live at their very best. Music video by Brian May & Kerry Ellis __© 2013 Montreux Sounds (/RTS), under exclusive license to Eagle Rock Entertainment Ltd.
