Lou Reed
Lou Reed is one of the most influential artists of the rock era. From his days in the sixties as the main singer and songwriter of the Velvet Underground and through his mercurial solo career he has kept his audience and the critics on their toes with dramatic changes of musical direction from album to album. Underpinning everything however has been his unquestionable ability as a songwriter and performer of the highest class. This July 2000 concert is his only Montreux performance to date. This was part of his tour for the acclaimed Ecstacy album and the show features live performances of a number of songs from that release as well as Lou Reed classics such as 'Romeo Had Juliette', 'Set the Twilight Reeling', 'Dirty Blvd.' and 'Perfect Day'. Alongside his DJ and production work, and his label Dim Mak — plus the endeavours of his Aoki Foundation, raising money for brain research — Aoki began to expand his chain of restaurants, Pizzaoki. Naturally, music took up a significant part of the year 2019 as well. Korn came out of California in the early nineties and went on to become one of the most globally successful metal acts of their generation. They continue to play live to vast crowds and have record sales in the millions. This concert from Montreux in 2004 is their only performance at the festival to date. Three Sides Live was filmed in November 1981 on the Abacab tour in North America. Originally filmed in 16mm, the footage has now been fully restored. The show focuses on tracks from the Duke and Abacab albums and the tracks are intercut with behind the scenes footage and interviews with the band members. As ever with Genesis, the show is visually stunning and it captures the band in their transition from their progressive days in the seventies through to the hugely successful pop/rock act they became from the mid-eighties onwards.
