Every July since 2001, France's Musiques en Stock music festival has invited thousands of contemporary music listeners to the small city of Cluses. The festivals lineup invariably includes a wide range of artists from a variety of music genres. One of the acts of the festival's 2016 edition was Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires. For decades Bradley made a living singing the music of James Brown, until he was discovered by Daptone Records, which eventually released Bradleys four albums. Rooting his music in funk, soul and R&B, Bradley is hailed for shaping the sound of the record label that first acknowledged his individuality. His 2016 performance at Musiques en Stock is on the way to become a classic that epitomizes everything Bradley represents: it is full of raw energy, urban Afro-American culture, and classic 1960s vibes.

“I never heard anyone say that, and yeah, I know exactly what it means. It has to go in there, this has to be a song.” Every song has its own story, and we all think its a story weve heard before, but we havent. Songbook finds and captures these intriguing stories by pulling you into the process of writing and composing. Known for its pristine sound, cinematic 4k video and eye for detail, Songbook live-captured episodes emphasize the paramount importance of quality. It addresses the on-the-spot elements of blending song and location at the right moment. Both the magical location and remarkable music interaction will get the attention they deserve. Simply because Songbook isnt just a live music session, it lives. This episode of Songbook features Italian singer-songwriter Violetta Zironi. The Correggio-born solo artist began writing songs at the age of 16 and found inspiration in country and bluegrass music throughout her musical development. She is known for a pure sound, often relying on her beautifully soft voice and guitar only.
