Segovia at Los Olivos Directed by Christopher Nupen In fact, in Western classical music, the achievement of Andrés Segovia is unique As a boy in Granada, he was captivated by the variety of tone colours and the wealth of harmonic possibilities of the Spanish guitar and he saw a future for it that nobody had previously even dreamed of. On those seemingly slender beginnings he set out on a remarkable quest. Using the work done by Fernando Sor and Francisco Tarrega in the nineteenth century and adding the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach, he began to build not only a career for himself, but to lay the foundations of modern guitar technique and the present-day international popularity of the Spanish guitar as a serious musical instrument. Within twenty years, Andrés Segovia had taught himself the instrument, revolutionised the technique and won acceptance for it on the concert platforms of Europe. He spent the next fifty years giving concerts in almost every part of the world and was at various times a resident of the United States, Switzerland and Argentina.

Omar Sosa (piano) Leandro Saint-Hill (saxophone, flute) Joo Kraus (trumpet) Childo Tomas (voice, bass) Marque Gilmore (drums) To tackle a mountain like Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, there are two solutions: take it head-on at the risk of getting lost. Or circumvent it with inventiveness. Omar Sosa chose the second option. Pianist with a lavish discography and inexhaustible inventiveness, the Cuban has deconstructed all the components of Miles Davis' masterpiece to recompose them in his own way. Following the spirit rather than the letter: the approach makes sense for a musician full of spirituality like Omar Sosa. On the program, therefore, no Latinized So What, no Africanized All Blues, no rehashes of John Coltrane solos, but an unprecedented experience crossed by a quiet groove, bursts of electronics and winks. impressionists to the original disc. Magic Malik Rythms and dancses from Cameroon Magic Malik, flute, voice, co-composer, co-artistic direction, Hilaire Penda co-composer, co-artistic direction, Zaf Zapha, bass, Maciek Lassere, saxophone, William Ombe, percussions, voice, Merclin Nyakam, choreography, dance, voice Created in 2017 on the occasion of the residence of Magic Malik in Royaumont, this programme focusing on Cameroon was an invitation to see much further by looking much closer. To start with, it was a question of an encounter between the flautist with large antennas and a Fulani flute played by the Burkino Faso citizen Dramane Dembelé. However, along the way, the imagined project with the late Hilaire Penda and of which the Cameroonian dancer Merlin Nyakam has become the principle mediator, feeds off traces from the past in order to question the very nature of what we call jazz and to fertilise it by projecting it into the contemporary field of a creolised world.
