The Puerto Vallarta Race, the first event on the calendar, began with the departure of 21 boats from San Diego to Puerto and was a tale of two races. As sailors reached the dock in Marina Vallarta, their stories emphasized the contrast between the two. The first race is the run from San Diego to Cabo which this year was like none other. The second race involves attempting to avoid the holes and minimize the light air that most boats encountered crossing the Sea of Cortez and approach to Puerto Vallarta.

The sailors on the GC32 Racing Tour range from professional sailors to the under 24 year olds heading for the Red Bull Youth America's Cup teams as well as ambitious private owners who compete in their own owner-driver division. Crews from Team BDA, Team France Jeune, Softbank team Japan and also the Swiss, Team Tilt were in Riva del Garda to test their skills. Double Olympic medalist and Volvo Ocean Race skipper Iker Martinez will be part of the Tour proper skippering I'm Racing Movistar. Argentinean catamaran sailor, Federico Ferioli and his Team, Codigo Rojo Racing, are also new to the GC32 Racing Tour this season.

Back in May and just one month before the 34th America's Cup, all the teams gathered at Lake Riva del Garda with its stunning mountainous background. Six weeks later, the tour moved south to Sardinia and to the beautiful Villasimius. The GC32 fleet met again in Mallorca for the 36th Copa del Rey MAPFRE and then at Corsica where the 4th event of the 2017 tour took place, the GC32 OREZZA CORSICA CUP. The 2017 season wrapped up with a glittering prize giving ceremony in Marseille where the tour winners celebrated their achievements to rapturous applause.
